Locate and Delete Local User Catalog File - Cherwell
Last modified 12/12/2022
Whenever a blueprint is published it updates the definitions and causes the local users catalog file to be updated so that the latest changes are applied. However, if this needs to be deleted manually to allow the catalog to be freshly downloaded, you need to know the location of the file.
- .CAT files are created for versions CSM 9.1.1 and backwards.
- .DCAT files are created for versions CSM 9.2.1 and onwards.
NOTE: Deleting catalog files may not affect browser users that are having an issue
CSM 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
Resolution
- Close out of the Cherwell application
- On the computer that the client is installed on locate the trebuchet folder: a) go to the File Explorer and locate this folder: C:\Users\User.Name\AppData\Roaming\Trebuchet OR b) Search "%appdata%" in the File Explorer then go into the Trebuchet folder
NOTE: AppData is a hidden folder. You will either need to select to show hidden files or you can put %AppData% in the address bar.
NOTE: User.Name = The name of the logged in user for whom you are deleting the *.cat or *.dcat file.
3. Delete the .cat or .dcat file.
- If there is more than one *.cat file, you can find the correct one by searching for the name of the connection.
For example: if the connection being used is called "Cherwell Prod" you would see: CherwellCatalog-CherwellProd.cat , Or it may be called "CSM", so you would see: CherwellCatalog-CSM.cat , etc.
- You may also want to remove the .mcf (Cherwell Cache) files, as they will also rebuild after relaunch of the client.
- If you see .xml or .txt files in the same folder, you will generally need to leave those there (do not delete them).
NOTE: When the *.cat or .dcat file is deleted, it will automatically download the file the next time the user attempts to login to the Rich Client.
4. Relaunch the Cherwell application. The catalog files will rebuild.
