Microsoft OneDrive

Last modified 2/28/2024

OneDrive for Business allows you to upload and sync files to cloud-based storage and then access the files from a web browser on your computer or mobile device. OneDrive is strongly recommended for the storage of individual University files. Files stored in OneDrive are backed up and secure. They are also available from any connected device, and can be synced automatically to and from your primary device, allowing for offline usage.

OneDrive for Business Features

In your Illinois State OneDrive account, you have one terabyte (1000 GB) of storage available*. You can store up to a total of 20,000 items in your OneDrive library, including folders and files. You can upload files that are up to 2 GB in size.

*Note: Retirees, incoming students (not yet actively taking classes), and faculty/staff/students who have recently left the university have a reduced amount (100 GB) of storage available in OneDrive. For more information about this, please see:

What happens if I already have a personal OneDrive account?

Microsoft offers a consumer version of OneDrive as well as a business version of OneDrive (which is part of Microsoft 365). If you already have an account for the consumer version of OneDrive registered to your Illinois State email address, you can still use that account as you normally would. The consumer and business versions of OneDrive have separate log in pages. For more information, see Logging in to Microsoft 365.
